  • ISSUES

So you know when people are like…”dude, so and so has ISSUES.”

or “Do you have an ISSUE of so and so magazine?”

or “Would you like me to ISSUE you another card?”

So funny how that same word can mean SO many things…And typing it so many times makes me think i’m spelling it wrong.

All to say…EVERYONE has issues.  Heck, i think i have more issues than most, but how far can we take that and how many times can we make that same excuse?  How far exactly do i let my issues control me or how far will we excuse what someone else does and blame it on their “issues”?  Do we need a reason for someone’s actions?  I have so many clients that engage in unhealthy behaviors and can’t do anything for themselves because of their life circumstances.  I know they have SO many “issues,” and their behavior or lack of, is easily excusable when they had a husband that beat them or they had a traumatic past.  But how do you move past that and stop being crippled by your past? Much of what i do at my internship is to sadly attempt to empower these ladies and let them know that they have the ability to be independent in their lives.  I wish desperately to let them know who the ultimate healer is…

Anyways on another topic…I think my verbal filter has completely disintegrated and i partly blame my aging self.  I never really felt my age until recently.  I creak a little more, I forget things ALL the time, I NEVER understand what people are talking about and interpret what they say COMPLETELY wrong.   I started taking 2 Ginko Biloba pills everyday so that I can increase in my concentration and memory and HOPEFULLY stop misunderstanding everyone and their mothers.  I haven’t seen much difference, but maybe that’s because i have to let it kick in more…

I just don’t want to turn into my parents.  I’ve had the same schedule now for 12 weeks and they STILL ask me EVERY TIME i walk into the house, “were you at school?”  (i only go twice a week)….

    hmm…

  • you don’t need ginko.. just clean out your ears once in a while.. :)

  • i totally relate about patients with lots of issues being on the psych floor right now. =( be careful about taking ginkgo biloba if you’re also taking other meds. according to one of my pharm lectures, they have lots of drug interactions!

  • i think we have the same problems…my memory’s going…

  • Omg…ginkgo biloba gave me MIGRAINES!!

  • i tried ginkgo biloba for a month and it made no difference. im still as absent-minded and forgetful as I was before.

  • Maybe the gingko is what made you put out 4 cards on the flop when you were dealing cards for us on Saturday night!!!

btw, LOVE the way you started this blog.  Clever play on “issues.”  And yeah, it bothers me when people use their “issues” as a crutch.  Sometimes, we just need to get over it!!!
